Coffee shop sounds

A café works as a place to concentrate for a reason that has nothing to do with coffee: a low murmur of other people working is easier to focus in than dead silence, where every small sound becomes an event. This layer recreates that — soft clinks, room tone, and voices that never resolve into words.

Unintelligible is the important part. Speech you can follow competes directly with the verbal attention you need for reading and writing; speech you cannot follow occupies only the social side of it. That is the difference between a café being useful and a podcast being a distraction.

It works best for tasks with some slack in them: reading, note-taking, admin, first drafts. For memorizing or anything with heavy verbal load, pull it down and let rain or wind carry the mix instead.
