Wind sounds

Wind is the connective layer. On its own it is the quietest sound in the library; in a mix it is the one that makes everything else sound like a place. It fills the gaps between rain textures and between waves, so a loop never feels empty in the spaces.

This recording avoids the two things that make wind recordings tiring: howling and gusting. Both introduce sudden changes in level, and sudden changes are what break concentration and light sleep. What is left is a low, steady movement of air with slow variation and no peaks.

Used alone, it suits people who find rain too busy and white noise too synthetic. It gives you a floor to raise the room above without any detail to follow.

In mixes it is almost always right at a low level: enough that removing it would leave a hole, not enough to be identified as its own sound. Try it under waves for an open coast, under forest for a moving canopy, or under rain for weather with some scale to it.
